🤝 About the Confucius Institute for Business London (CIBL) at LSE:

The event represents a collaboration between European Guanxi and the Confucius Institute for Business London (CIBL) at LSE, which combines the academic excellence of LSE and Tsinghua University with the business acumen of our five sponsor companies; HSBC, BP, Deloitte, Swire and Standard Chartered.

With a strong focus on business communication, CIBL specialises in helping business communities to learn Mandarin and foster greater understanding of the business culture in China. Alongside delivering business Chinese classes, we also host a number of events to promote wider Chinese culture and offer Executive Education Programmes.

🎤 About the Speakers: 

For European Guanxi 🇪🇺:

  • Ilaria Tipà is the first Italian to specialise in simultaneous translation from Chinese into Italian and is currently the only interpreter in the International Association of Conference Interpreters (AIIC) to use Italian and Chinese as working languages. She has extensive experience working as an interpreter for firms and institutions, and she’s currently a professor in simultaneous translation (Chinese/Italian) at the University of the International Studies of Rome. In 2019, Ilaria distinguished herself as President Mattarella’s personal interpreter during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s state visit. Ilaria is the founder of Élite China Academy, which stands out from other Chinese language academies for its innovative principles and large community of Sinologists. Ilaria holds a master’s degree in Conference Interpreting from the University of the International Studies of Rome.  and a postgraduate diploma in Marketing and Digital Communication and a three-year diploma in Traditional Chinese Medicine.

For the Confucius Institute Business London 🇨🇳: 

  • Originally from London, Ilan has worked in several countries including the UK, China and Israel, and in industries as diverse as finance, government and education. He has degrees in East Asian Studies from the University of Sheffield and in Conflict Resolution and Mediation from Tel Aviv University. Starting his career in London’s financial sector, Ilan moved to Beijing over a decade ago to build on his undergraduate studies and learn Mandarin. He also worked for the UK government in the Chinese capital before relocating to Tel Aviv for graduate studies. Ilan worked with several prominent NGOs and universities in Israel before returning to Beijing to join the newly-established Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. Before the pandemic, he was based in Shanghai helping international companies develop their operations in the Chinese market. Ilan currently works as a relationship manager for a company based in London and Hong Kong that helps senior executives develop themselves and their leadership teams. He is an accredited mediator and regularly offers his spare time to mediation and peacebuilding organisations in the UK and internationally. Having lived in mainland China for several years, he is comfortable communicating in Mandarin.

🎙️About the Moderator: 

Born in North Macedonia, raised in Italy Ardita Osmani graduated from Ca'Foscari University of Venice, in Chinese language and management to China with a master thesis on "CSR practices for sustainable development in China". She is currently a Chinese language teacher and a mentor for hard sustainability-oriented projects. Her main fields of expertise are the Chinese language, history of legal institutions of China and sustainability culture in Asia. She is also often involved in sino-balkan relations projects and worked in short stories translations from Chinese to Italian and Albanian.
